HomeWrench ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.
1. Information We Collect
HomeWrench is designed to keep your data on your device. We collect only what is necessary to provide core functionality:
- Appliance & property data — names, models, serial numbers, photos, service records, and documents you enter manually or via AI scan. Stored locally on your device using encrypted storage.
- Photos & documents — images and files you attach to appliance records. Stored locally and never transmitted to our servers.
- Camera & photo library access — used only when you initiate a scan or attach a photo. We do not access your camera or library in the background.
- Location — used only to autofill your property address when you add a property. We do not track or store your location.
- Calendar — used to add maintenance reminders to a dedicated HomeWrench calendar. We do not read existing calendar events.
2. AI Features
When you use the AI appliance scan feature, images you capture are sent to Anthropic's Claude API solely to identify appliance information (make, model, serial number). Images are not stored by us and are subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not create user accounts or collect email addresses.
- We do not sell, share, or rent your personal data to third parties.
- We do not use advertising SDKs or tracking frameworks.
- We do not collect analytics or usage telemetry.
4. Data Transfer (Owner Handoff)
HomeWrench includes a feature to export appliance or property records to a new owner via a .homewrench file shared through iOS share sheet (AirDrop, email, etc.). This transfer is initiated entirely by you. We do not facilitate, intercept, or store any data transferred using this feature.
5. Data Security
All data stored by HomeWrench on your device is encrypted using AES-256 encryption with a key stored in the iOS Keychain. We do not have access to your encryption key or your data.
6. Children's Privacy
HomeWrench is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
